No. 09 | Where Textiles Meet Notebooks

No. 09 | Where Textiles Meet Notebooks

Creative Artifacts HQ was born from a passion for fiber arts and textiles, product design and essential tools of creativity.

Diving into books that explore the deeper stories behind the materials we use is fascinating.

One such read, *Fabric: The Hidden History of the Material World* by Victoria Finlay, does just that—uncovering the rich and unexpected impact fabrics have had/have on our history and culture. It’s a compelling look into the threads that literally and figuratively bind us together.

This ties beautifully into the very essence of the cotton rag products this shop. A love of textiles is woven into the notebooks and sketchbooks

Here’s the twist: these aren’t just any notebooks. They are made using recycled cotton rag paper, sourced from local―Montreal has a rich history of garment and textile manufacturing― cotton textile offcuts that would otherwise go to waste. This process not only repurposes this local fabric waste but also gives new life to the materials that have their own rich histories.

Much like the stories in Finlay’s book, these notebooks, sketchbooks and more connect the past and present. Each one is a blend of history, sustainability, and creativity, thoughtfully crafted to transform discarded textiles into something beautiful and functional.

_From cotton plants milled and turned into textiles, then recuperated, recycled and transformed into paper, then shaped into notebooks_

By turning fabric waste into paper, these notebooks bring the art of textile history full circle—much like the stories Finlay shares in her book.

When you write in one of my notebooks, you’re not just jotting notes or creating sketches; you’re engaging with a piece of recycled history, handmade with care.

So, as we turn the pages of *Fabric* and dive deeper into the hidden stories of materials, we're reminded of the purpose behind these handcrafted products.

Join me in celebrating the beauty of sustainable, handmade goods that honor the materials they’re made from.

Write your story on paper that already has one—it’s a small way to be part of a bigger, more meaningful journey.
